I really don’t know if Amanda could have looked any more gorgeous on her wedding day. LOVED the dress. The bridal party was loads of fun and were willing to try just about anything we asked of them – good troopers! The ceremony was held at St. Mary’s with another great reception at the Ramada.

Ame & Sean

Beautiful day! Torrential rain! Beautiful evening!

That’s the short version of Ame and Sean’s wedding day at Fair Hills Resort on Pelican Lake. The longer version starts with great weather for portraits with Ame, Sean and their kids all around the resort. The torrential rain portion of our day was just prior to the ceremony but the weather cleared in time for a great celebration under the tent.

Between the funky weather and the great location there are way more photos here than usual … enjoy!

Emily & Ryan’s Maternity Session

I was fortunate to photograph beautiful Emily and her husband Ryan a couple weeks ago. They are due to have a baby in July and wanted to make sure to get some photographs of her blossoming belly before baby’s arrival. I met them at our studio at then went to Armour Park right here in West Fargo.

Big brother Caleb was so sweet with his five-week-old sister Ava during our photo session a couple weeks ago at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo. I have a feeling these two will be life long buds.

Top Ten in the World

The results from the first Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) contest of 2010 were announced recently and I was lucky enough to take fourth in the Creative Portrait category with a photo of Mikaela and Olnick in the fog on their March wedding day in Langdon, N.D. The judges said, “The best portraits incorporate creativity with an accurate portrayal of the subjects. This image does this beautifully, and simply.”

We love when the weather or a location gives us the opportunity to make images that are truly unique to one couple and their day.

The WPJA is made up of wedding photojournalists from around the globe and it’s an elite group. Photogs must apply and have their work approved before gaining entry. The quarterly contests are judged by some of the finest working photojournalists and editors in the country, including Pulizer Prize winners. Only the top 20 images are recognized, so it’s a great compliment to have one of your photos rise to the top.

While this WPJA award is our most recent, it’s definitely not our first. Britta has had more photos place than I have, and among active WPJA members she has more overall wins than any photographer in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming … you get the picture. Of the hundreds of WPJA members in the country only 12 have had more contest wins than Britta.

Twelve. That’s 1-2. (12.)

And the rest of the world? Oh, well only four photographers outside the U.S. have topped Britta for wins.

That’s some big talent in our humble state, folks.

And as a studio? There are only five studios in the country with more WPJA wins than us and only two in the rest of the world.

England, Italy, New York and West Fargo, N.D. Sounds good, eh?

Amanda & Matt

Amanda and Matt had a few great ideas for their engagement portrait session, but they left the location hunting for me. One of my favorite things to do when I take portraits is to go on mini adventures with my clients. I feel most creative when I discover new places for the first time and I think it’s a lot of fun to find those places with my clients. We found a couple super vintagey locations off 8th street south in Fargo. The bikes and Lincoln, the adorable Great Dane puppy, were brought along by Amanda and Matt.

Thanks guys for a super fun session. I can’t wait until your September wedding!

Maggie & Jason

I’ve known Ms. Maggie for a few years, so when she asked Milestones to photograph her wedding I was beyond thrilled. Maggie has a great way about her: smiley, positive and always fun to be around. Maggie and Jason are a great match and we are so happy they let us document their wedding.

The intimate wedding was held on Sky Prairie (the rooftop of the Hotel Donaldson) with a reception at the HoDo Restaurant in downtown Fargo.

Anybody who has been married in Cass County (North Dakota) knows you get this fine gift of beef coupons and recipes from the District 7 Cattlewomen.

Oh, and did I mention there were Zombies?

Tayla & Devin

Last fall, I took Tayla’s graduate photographs (curious? check them out here). Tayla is a natural in front of the camera and such a joy to photograph. So, naturally, I was pretty thrilled to photograph her and her brother for a fun sibling portrait session. Like his sister, Devin doesn’t lack any personality. We all had a pretty good time, including their mom DeAnn who made a brief appearance at the end of the shoot.

Tayla graduates this weekend and we here at Milestones congratulate her and all the 2010 graduates.
